Max Planck plans double blow to chemistry
Article Abstract:
The Max Planck Society plans to close the cosmochemistry and geochemistry departments at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, due to budget cuts. The closures could be the first of twenty or so closures of research units. Observers say that the two planned closures could effectively end Germany's participation in those fields of science.

German tobacco papers reveal lump sums for health experts
Article Abstract:
German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg undertook the study on top public-health experts who accept funds from tobacco industry. Out of 15 of the most prominent public health, experts at least four had received large sums from the industry, mostly through research bodies.

The closing of a fund program run by of Russian Academy of Sciences has deprived many Russian researchers from earning salary. The program attracted several talented researchers back to Russia and was quite successful in research work related to molecular as well as cell biology.
