Contaminated blood case nears end
Article Abstract:
The retrial of four French scientists accused of allowing HIV-contaminated blood products into the market is expected to end by Jun 1993. This second trial is expected to bring less severe sentences, even if the case has caused a scandal in the public health service of the French government. The National Center for Blood Transfusions' delayed decision to subject the contaminated products to heat treatment was a major element of the scandal since it caused half of the country's hemophiliacs to be infected with HIV.

The kinship of apes and people
Article Abstract:
'The Great Ape Project' is a book about the social and genetic relationship between Homo sapiens and the great apes. The book is better than it initially appears to be, raising a number of interesting questions as it pushes the agenda of a society that regards orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees as equal to humans. It centers on the questions of what the behavioral differences are between humans and apes, and what genetic sources these have.
