Melanocortin receptors in leptin effects
Article Abstract:
Research has established that melanocortin-4 (MC4) receptor signalling works with Leptin to reduce food intake in animals. Long-Evans rats take in more food after being treated with the non-selective MC4 receptor antagonist SHU9119. Immunoreactivity experiments prove that leptin is deactivated by SHU9119. Evidence suggests that obesity may be caused by malfunctioning MC4 receptor signalling.

Central nervous system control of food intake
Article Abstract:
It is vital to identify the mechanisms that regulate food intake and energy homeostasis. A greater understanding of the pathogenesis of human obesity may eventually dictate treatment for those affected. It is possible that obesity caused by reduced melanocortins will respond well to melanocortin-receptor agonists.

Obesity and gut flora
Article Abstract:
The relationship between the types of microbiota found in the gut and the regulation of body weight is examined. Human genetics have played a major role in determining body weight and the gut bacteria is another key factor that has contributed to the differences found in the body weight among individuals.
