Nest-site preference of northern goshawks in southcentral Wyoming
Article Abstract:
The nest-site preference of goshawks that were nesting in lodgepole pine in Wyoming was studied. Using 39 pairs of goshawks, nesting habitat was described at three spatial scales, namely, nest tree, nest-tree area and nest stand. Habitat characteristics at nest-sites were also compared with those of random sites. The diameter at breast height (dbh) of nest trees were found larger than the dbh of trees in either the nest-tree area or the nest stand. Trees in random stands were smaller and had lesser dbh than nest trees. Small trees at nest stands were less than those in random stands.
