Noise-resistant and synchronized oscillation of the segmentation clock
Article Abstract:
A study examining the response of a normally oscillating clock in zebrafish to experimental stimuli using in vivo mosaic experiments and mathematical simulation is presented. It is demonstrated that the segmentation clock behaves as a coupled oscillator, by showing that Notch-dependent intercellular communication, the activity of which is regulated by the internal hairy oscillator, couples neighboring cells to facilitate synchronized oscillation.

A mirror-symmetric cell division that orchestrates neuroepithelial morphogenesis
Article Abstract:
Several studies and analyses are employed to identify a novel mode of polarized cell division, which produces mirror-symmetric neural progenitors in a developing zebrafish and also has dramatic consequences for the organization of embryonic tissues. The analysis reveals that these divisions have strong morphogenetic influence, as it orchestrates the neuroepithelial morphogenesis and helps in the development of ectopic neural tubes.

Pregnenolone stabilizes microtubules and promotes zebrafish embryonic cell movement
Article Abstract:
The pregnenolone generated from cholesterol by the steroidogenic enzyme Cyp11a1 (cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzymes, P450scc) functions in promoting cell migration during epiboly. It is shown that the epibolic delay is accompanied by a decrease in the level of polymerized microtubules and the results show that pronenolone preserves microtubule abundance and promotes cell movement during epiboly.
