An overview is presented on efforts to protect brown bear populations in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. Poaching is a common threat, especially around Bystrinsky Nature Park, located in the center of the peninsula. While some are subsistence kills by local residents, many are killed for the animal products trade.

Saving the Jaguar
Article Abstract:
The status of the Brazilian jaguar is examined from both inside and outside the protection of the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve. Studies show that the killing of jaguars remains high despite conservation efforts, usually as a result of villagers who encounter the cats while hunting.
