Notch signalling limits angiogenic cell behavior in developing zebrafish arteries
Article Abstract:
Notch signalling is an essential factor for restricting angiogenic cell behavior to tip cells in developing segmental arteries in the zebrafish embryo. The results have indicated that proper specification of cell identity, position and behavior in a developing blood-vessel sprout is needed for normal angiogenesis and has also implicated the Notch signalling pathway in this process.

Sperm-egg fusion unscrambled
Article Abstract:
The new discovery of sperm-egg fusion is of a sperm-specific protein called Izumo, a protein named after the Japanese shrine to marriage and the evidence that it is required for fusion. The findings raise the exciting possibility that, because Izumo is sperm-specific and extracellular, this protein and its interacting partners could be new targets for non-hormonal contraception.

Molecular monogamy
Article Abstract:
Cells will stop functioning if the interactions between cellular proteins are not highly specific. This specificity evolving in yeast is revealed by some clever protein- manipulating experiments.
