Novel strategies of subordinate fish competing for food: Learning when to fold
Article Abstract:
The study explored whether the opportunity to learn about the location and availability of food might facilitate food-stealing attempts by male blue gouramis, Trichogaster trichopterus, a freshwater tropical fish. Subordinates reduced the number of attacks they received as well as the amount of time they spent fleeing from dominants by anticipating food location and availability.

Male house sparrows deliver more food to experimentally subsidized offspring
Article Abstract:
The nutritional condition of parent house sparrows, Passer domesticus's dependent nestlings was improved experimentally to explore behavioural adjustments. Male parents responded to artificially supplemented broods by increasing food deliveries, whereas female parents continued matching the already high rate of control females.

Dynamics of biparental care in house sparrows: Hormonal manipulations of paternal contributions
Article Abstract:
The effects of testosterone (T) on male incubation behavior of mouse house sparrows, Passer domesticus, are examined. The results show that suppressive effects of T on male parental care generalize to incubation behavior in this species and reinforce the view of T as a mediator of trade-offs between parental and mating effort.
