Origin of the dielectric dead layer in nanoscale capacitors
Article Abstract:
Ab initio calculations of the dielectric properties of realistic SrRu[O.sub.3]/SrTi[O.sub.3]/SrRu[O.sub.3] nanocapacitors were performed to show that the observed dramatic capacitance reduction is an intrinsic effect. The results for SrRu[O.sub.3]/SrTi[O.sub.3] indicate that the ionic contribution to the screening, even with excellent structural matching between the electrode and the film, is unlikely ever to be sufficient and therefore electrodes with shorter electronic screening length, such as Pt or Au, should be the best candidates for reducing the dead layer.

Preparation and characterization of graphene oxide paper
Article Abstract:
The preparation and characterization of grapheme oxide paper, a free-standing carbon-based membrane material made by flow-directed assembly of individual graphene oxide sheets is reported. The material has outperformed many other paper-like materials in stiffness and strength, which is a result of a unique interlocking-tile arrangement of the nanoscale graphene oxide sheets.

An off- normal fibre- like texture in thin films on single- crystal substrates
Article Abstract:
Texture depicts the statistical distribution of grain orientation, with reference to materials science. A type of texture identified from complex but symmetrical patterns of lines on diffraction pole figures for thin films formed by solid- state reactions is reported.
