The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's decision to revoke three stem-cell patents is seen as a victory for stem-cell researchers, except in Wisconsin as it held the patents. The implications of this ruling on the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), a charity that helps scientists to exploit their inventions commercially, are discussed.
