Phase-mapping of periodically domain-inverted LiNbO3 with coherent X-rays
Article Abstract:
Research into the possibility of phase-contrast imaging of periodic domain inversion in ferroelectric nonlinear optical materials has used the crystal LiNbO3. A periodically domain-inverted structure for quasi-phase-matching of second-harmonic generation was created in this material, with the direction of spontaneous polarization being sequentially inverted. There were lattice distortions across the domain walls, with these distortions splitting the diffracted wavefront of a beam of coherent X-rays from an advanced synchrotron source.

A compound refractive lens for focusing high-energy X-rays
Article Abstract:
The fabrication of refractive lenses from low-atomic-weight materials is effective for focusing X-rays in the 5-40 keV range. The lenses minimize the problems associated with absorption. A compound lens with a number of lenses arranged in a linear manner, focuses X-rays in one or two dimensions. An aluminum block with 30 closely placed holes effectively focuses a 14-keV X-ray beam to a spot size of eight micro-meter.
