Population demographics of two local South Carolina mourning dove populations
Article Abstract:
The population demographic parameters of two local South Carolina mourning dove populations were investigated. Findings suggested that the hunted and the breeding population in South Carolina are equivalent and that breeding adults were relatively sedentary during their lifetime. Data on population movement support earlier hypotheses of nonmigratory breeding and harvested populations in the area. Low survival rates and estimated population growth rate obtained may be representative only of small-scale areas that are heavily managed for dove-hunting.

Sampling considerations for disease surveillance in wildlife populations
Article Abstract:
Landscape-based simulation methods are used for modeling the habitat preferences of the wildlife population, the disease distribution and the potential biases of the convenience-sample approach. Chronic wasting disease in free-ranging deer is used to show that the probability sample designs with appropriate estimators have provided unbiased surveillance parameter estimates, but the selection bias and coverage errors have led to biased and misleading results.

Mourning dove hunting regulation strategy based on Annual Harvest statistics and banding data
Article Abstract:
A stastically rigorous technique for regulation decision-making using a hypothesis-testing framework and a supposed model of 3 hunting regulations substitutes are described to serve as a base for game bird harvest management strategies. The model is illustrated and evaluated and the outcomes are used to describe the practical execution of the technique as interim harvest strategy for mourning doves.
