Porous clay heterostructures formed by gallery-templated synthesis
Article Abstract:
The templated synthesis of mesoporous molecular sieves in the interlayer spaces of clays is possible by the intercalated surfactants which along with aqueous silicate species form an interlayer silica framework. The surfactant is withdrawn by calcination resulting in a mesoporus solid with thermally stable pores of 14 to 22 Angstroms thickness. These porous clay heterostructures are applied for patterning heterogeneous catalysts.

Europe can benefit from East-West collaboration rather than globalization
Article Abstract:
Wolf Lepenies, the rector of the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin, believes that Eastern and Western Europe should collaborate to unite Europe on a common spiritual and intellectual level, rather than focusing on globalization. He believes that the intellect and culture of both the East and the West were impoverished by so many years of division.

Fossiliferous Lana'i deposits formed by multiple events rather than a giant tsunami
Article Abstract:
It has generally been believed that giant tsunamis have been responsible for depositing chaotic gravels high on the coastal slopes of the Hawaiian islands of Lana'i and Moloka'i, but new research suggests that the gravels may have been formed by multiple, depositional events, separated by long time periods.
