Predicting the risk of extinction through hybridization
Article Abstract:
A number of ecological parameters likely to affect extinction risk are analyzed through an individual based model simulating the life cycle of two hybridizing annual plant species. The results suggest that an endemic cord grass species is threatened by hybridization and the results from the simulations gives leads to the kind of data required to evaluate extinction risk and possible conservation strategies.

Comparative analysis of management regimes and medicinal plant trade monitoring mechanisms for American ginseng and goldenseal
Article Abstract:
The two North American medicinal plants, American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) and goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), are listed under the list of endangered species of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). They are monitored under disparate domestic strategies satisfying the requirements of CITES.

An Evaluation of Threatened Species Categorization Systems Used on the American Continent
Article Abstract:
The authors assessed 25 international, national, and local categorization systems used for identifying endangered species, and applied them to species on the American continent. Findings show that the current system used by the World Conservation Union is the most suitable.
