Population variability and extinction risk
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that extinction risk is positively correlated to population variability. A solution is presented to the statistical artifact resulting from underestimated population variability in populations with short persistence, along with the observation that measured variability is low because extinction occurs so quickly.

Reliability of Absolute and Relative Predictions of Population Persistence Based on Time Series
Article Abstract:
Research shows that count-based population viability analysis can be a useful tool for evaluating risk assessment for species; however, several decades of data drawn from time series of abundance estimates are usually necessary for accuracy.

Erosion of heterozygosity in fluctuating populations
Article Abstract:
This article examines the demographic, environmental and genetic variables that threaten the existence of small, isolated populations. Research addressed links genetic inbreeding to increased risk of extinction from environmental influences.
