Principal pathway coupling agonist binding to channel gating in nicotine receptors
Article Abstract:
A structural model of the Torpedo acetylcholine receptor is used at 4-Armstrong resolution, recording of currents through single receptor channels and determining energy coupling between pairs of residues, to delineate a principal pathway that links neurotransmitter binding to channel gating. The point at which the binding domain triggers opening of the channel is identified and the series of interresidue couplings constitute a primary allosteric pathway that links neurotransmitter binding to channel gating.

A matter of balance
Article Abstract:
The neurons regulate the profile of neurotransmitters expressed by them. The neurotransmitter expression changes in response to differing degrees of neuronal activity.
