Proton movement on membranes
Article Abstract:
Surface-bound pH indicators show that light-induced pH changes on the cytoplasmic side are slower than that on the extracellular side of alkalophilic bacteria. J. Heberle, J. Riesle, G. Thiedemann, D. Oesterheit and N. A. Dencher attribute this to fast proton movement along the purple membrane surface to the opposite side. The ambiguity in this explanation invokes the need for experimental evidence which suggests that proton is observed faster on either surface of the purple membrane than in the aqueous bulk phase.

Structural basis for the assembly of a nuclear export complex
Article Abstract:
The nuclear import and export of macromolecular cargoes through nuclear pore complexes is mediated by carriers such as importin-(beta). The structure of the Csel p: Kap60p: RanGTP nuclear export complex shows an intricate series of interfaces that enable molecular recognition of cargo-free kap60p and suggests a spring loaded mechanism to facilitate disassembly of the complex in the cytoplasm following RanGTP hydrolysis.
