Pushing for power
Article Abstract:
A professional physicist has illustrated tales of brilliant scientists and their heroic discoveries that command the true nature of scientific communities, which are often dominated by battles for power and success. Further, the power game is not just played in conferences but other forums include harsh reports written by anonymous referees reviewing papers for high-impact journals, damning assessments of a lecturer's teaching skills, or dismissive reviews of applications to granting organizations.

Network of concern
Article Abstract:
The array of techniques and compounds that have the potential to be used in bioterror attacks is growing and the threat is policed mainly by a handful of people in the military and at spy agencies. Much greater cooperation between scientists around the world will be needed to counter bioterrorism and they will have to create a global, grassroots network to discuss and monitor research that might be misused to kill and maim.
