Rapid on/off cycling of cytokine production by virus-specific CD8+ T cells
Article Abstract:
Activated CD8+ T cells are capable of cycling cytokine production on, off and on again in a regulated, antigen-specific way while constitutive cytolytic activity continues, according to research analyzing activated CD8+ T cells from mice infected with lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus. The initiation of cytokine production only upon antigen contact means that CD8+ T cells reduce the immunopathology that would arise if these molecules were secreted in a constitutive way.

Disruption of the murine IL-4 gene blocks the Th2 cytokine responses
Article Abstract:
The role of IL-4 gene in regulating the function of the murine T-helper clone Th2 is investigated by comparing IL-4 mutant mice and control groups during in vitro stimulation. Results show that Th2 cytokine secretion was absent in the naive IL-4 mutant mice and was greatly reduced in nematode infected groups. These results indicate the significannce of IL-4 gene in the production of Th2 derived cytokines and the corresponding immune responses they facilitate.

Benzodiazepine actions mediated by specific y-aminobutyric acidA receptor subtypes
Article Abstract:
New drugs could be developed as a result of research which indicates that specific GBAA receptor subtypes mediate benzodiazepine actions. These receptors regulate anxiety, vigilance, memory functions, muscle tension and epileptogenic activity.
