Recombinant fibroblast growth factor-1 promotes intimal hyperplasia and angiogenesis in arteries in vivo
Article Abstract:
Prototypes of the heparin-binding fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, acidic FGF (FGF-1) and basic FGF (FGF-2) promote endothelial cell growth and angiogenesis in vascular cells. A eukaryotic expression vector encoding a secreted form of FGF-1 was introduced into porcine arteries to determine its role in in vivo vascular pathology. Intimal hyperplasia of porcine arteries and angiogenesis was observed after FGF-1 was introduced. It is suggested that blood flow to ischaemic tissues can be enhanced through a gene transfer of FGF-1.

A DNA vaccine induces SARS coronavirus neutralization and protective immunity in mice
Article Abstract:
It is necessary to find a vaccine that can avert the chances of a reoccurrence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome disease. The study conducted reveals a DNA vaccine, that encodes the spike glycoprotein of the SARS-severe acute respiratory syndrome diseaseCoV, induces T cell and neutralizes antibody responses.

Accelerated vaccination for Ebola virus haemorrhagic fever in non-human primates
Article Abstract:
The development of accelerated vaccination against Ebola virus in non-human primates is described. The antibody response to immunization with an adenoviral vector encoding the Ebola glycoprotein is induced more rapidly than with DNA priming and ADV boosting.
