Keeping religion out of science class
Article Abstract:
US President George W. Bush encouraged the concept of 'intelligent design', the idea that a hidden hand must lie somewhere behind the evolution of life. The scientific community has responded effectively to Bush's statements, and Bush knows that the introduction of religious ideas into science class is a potentially explosive issue in the US politics, and not necessarily one that works in his favor.

Physics fights back
Article Abstract:
The physical sciences are strongly favoured in US President George W. Bush's 2007 budget request. The increases are part of Bush's American Competitiveness Initiative, which will support more spending on research and education programmes that are deemed relevant to industrial competitiveness.
