Episodic fresh surface waters in the Eocene Arctic Ocean
Article Abstract:
Palaeogene sediments obtained during the Arctic Coring Expedition are analyzed and shown that large quantities of the free-floating fern Azolla grew and reproduced in the Arctic Ocean by the onset of the middle Eocene epoch. The analyses have shown that onset and termination of the Azolla phase depended on the degree of oceanic exchange between Arctic Ocean and adjacent areas.

Eocene bipolar glaciation associated with global carbon cycle changes
Article Abstract:
The evidence for synchronous deepening and subsequent oscillations in the calcite compensation depth in the tropical Pacific and South Atlantic oceans from approximately 42 million years ago, with a permanent deepening 34 million years ago is presented. It is suggested that the greenhouse-icehouse transition was closely coupled to the evolution of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The early Miocene onset of a ventilated circulation regime in the Arctic Ocean
Article Abstract:
The article discusses the use of the sediment sequence cores in the Miocene period and which was removed from the Arctic Ocean by the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition in 2004. The study explains how these cores were helpful in transforming the Arctic Ocean from a low oxygen area to a fully oxygenated area.
