Season- and size-dependent risk taking in juvenile coho salmon: experimental evaluation of asset protection
Article Abstract:
Juvenile coho salmon integrate cues linked with their body size, recent growth history and photoperiod to make decisions about their foraging/risk trade-off. In general, larger fish show higher predation risk avoidance following a threat than smaller fish at comparable feeding levels. If there are no differences between small and large coho in the way the fish perceive the threat from the model, then the protection of greater accumulated assets may be an underlying evolutionary reason for the greater predation risk avoidance of larger fish.

Colour avoidance in northern bobwhites: effects of age, sex and previous experience
Article Abstract:
The bobwhites of both sexes have an intrinsic color disinclination particular to red, which is clear from a general avoidance of unaccustomed colors stemming from neophobia. This disinclination exists in both chicks and adults although it seems to be comparatively weak in adults. It is probable that such intrinsic disinclination to color per se can participate with neophobia to create much stronger color disinclination.
