Seasonal variation of home range of collared peccary in tropical rain forests of French Guiana
Article Abstract:
Studies in North America show that collared peccaries adapt to many types of habitat, from forests to arid deserts. However, little information is available on their ecology in the tropical rain forests of South America. A new study investigates the size, overlap and seasonal variations of peccary home ranges in French Guiana. The study shows home range size averaged 157-243 ha, with an overlap of 46-81 ha. The size of home ranges was positively associated with fruit production. It is shown that collared peccaries exhibit a wide ecological flexibility allowing them to adapt to changing food resources.

Dynamics and range expansion of a reestablished muskox population
Article Abstract:
A new study investigates the dynamics associated with an expanding, reestablished population of muskox in Alaska. Changes in distribution were monitored over a 13 year period and the relative importance of calf production, survival and emigration on the population's expansion were assessed. The study shows annual rates of increase were 0.24% between 1977-9181, but fell to 0.14% from 1982 to 1986. Post-1986, muskox numbers in the areas first occupied fell and appears to be stabilizing at just under 300 individuals.
