Sequence-specific scission of DNA by RNAs linked to a chemical nuclease
Article Abstract:
The DNA and the RNA of nucleic acid is cleaved by the oxidative attack of chemical nucleases, which are red x-active coordination complexes. The duplex has to the partly melted for cleaving the double-stranded DNA, and R-loops are utilized for this purpose. These were applied for mapping transcription units and selecting mRNA species. They also help in mapping the genomic size of the transcription units using sequences derived from cDNAs. This method has the drawback of yielding breaks ranging from 5-10%, and the standard agarose used cannot survive the formamide concentrations needed for R-looping.

A rational attack on influenza
Article Abstract:
Influenza has been prevalent for several centuries, and derives its name from 14th century Florence, where it was believed to strike under the influence of an unusual concurrence of planets. Many studies have been conducted to bring influenza under control, but most drugs are not fully effective. A recent study reveals that any drug should target the parts of the virus that remain invariant among strains such as the influenza virus neuraminidase.
