Annual survival and site fidelity of Steller's eiders molting along the Alaska Peninsula
Article Abstract:
Steller's eiders show very high fidelity to specific molting areas. This research, undertaken in two lagoons along the Alaska Peninsula, aimed to established annual survival rates for male and female Steller's eiders. The rates of fidelity for Steller's eiders were found to exceed estimates of fidelity rates for other ducks. There was little evidence that annual survival rates varied for either males or females among different molting locations.

Simultaneous use of mark-recapture and radiotelemetry to estimate survival, movement, and capture rates
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to develop a model structure for estimating survival, movement and capture rates using radiotelemetry and mark-recapture data. This research involved capturing adult wood thrushes in mist nets at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge in central Georgia during the 1996 breeding season. It has been shown that demographic parameters can be estimated with a new version of program MSSURVIV. It is concluded that demographic analyses may be more complete and, in some cases, more precise after the combined model is used than when either the telemetry model or mark-recapture model alone is used.

Banding reference areas and survival rates of green-winged teal, 1950-89
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to estimate the survival and banding recovery rates of green-winged teal, Anas crecca carolinensis, during winter from 1950-1989 using cluster analysis. Males and female teals showed no differences in survival rates, but recovery rates were larger for males than for females. Data also provide evidence of geographic variation in survival rates among males, but not for females.
