Sleep research: an animal nightmare
Article Abstract:
Animals such as cats, dogs, rabbits and rats are used to study sleep disorders in research laboratories. The experiments prevent the animals from having complete rest and subject them to procedures such as intracranial injections, electrode implants and castrations.

Companies involved in animal research keep their businesses in private as it may affect their competence in the industry as well as their image to the public. APHIS revealed that animal research firms have declined from 3,149 in 1993 to 2,688 as of 1995.
