The lack of significant action by the Bush administration, inspite of repeated appeals from the experts regarding the need for a tightly coordinated, well-funded U.S. government research programme on the possible impact of nanotechnology on the environment and human health and safety, is discussed.

A comparison is done between the eccentric line of scientific research and progressive line of scientific research. A short and personal account on the eccentric line of scientific research done by a chemistry graduate is given.
