Small mammal responses to thinning and wildfire in ponderosa pine-dominated forests of the Southwestern United States
Article Abstract:
The effects of forest thinning on small mammal population densities and total small mammal biomass in ponderosa pine dominated forests at northern Arizona and northern New Mexico, U.S.A., and the effects of wildfire in small mammal population densities and biomass after a wildfire, are evaluated. It is observed that thinning and wild fire resulted in increase of total small mammal biomass which suggests that fuel reduction treatments will have positive impact on small mammals on tree dense areas.

Bighorn sheep abundance following a suspected pneumonia epidemic in Rocky Mountain National Park
Article Abstract:
A mark-resight study was designed to assess the population abundance of bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis canadensis) in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), Colorado, USA. It was found after two years of study that the data collected is not sufficient to forecast the capacity of the herds to recover to the previous level after the pneumonia epizootic during the 1990s, but they provide the tools required to make decisions for future supervision and management of the fragile species.
