Starving hens
Article Abstract:
A survey by the United Poultry Concerns reveals that the 15 top egg industry firms in the US regularly withhold food from their hens in order to induce molting. The practice, which lasts between 5 to 14 days at a time, results in the generation of new feathers at the expense of some 10% of the hen population.
