Structural basis of procaspase-9 recruitment by the apoptotic protease-activating factor 1

Article Abstract:

Caspase-9-mediated apoptosis is important in the development and homeostasis of multicellular organisms. The mammalian homologues of CED-3 and CED-4 are caspase-9 and apoptotic protease-activating factor 1, (Apaf-1). The crystal structure of Apaf-1 caspase-recruitment domain (CARD) has been determined at 1.6A resolution. Significant structural differences from the RAIID CARD were found.
