Supercritical fluids as solvents for chemical and materials processing
Article Abstract:
Supercritical fluids (SCF) possess dissolving powers similar to other fluids. In addition, they are more compressible than dilute gases and possess transport properties that are between gas and liquid. Capitalizing on these unique characteristics, researchers are developing potential applications for SCF. Already, commercial applications for SCFs have been found in food processing and drug preparation. Future applications for SCF include bioreaction and catalysis.

When a phase is born
Article Abstract:
The characteristic size of the smallest building block of a new phase that can grow spontaneously was measured. It was found that a direct test of the relationship between the critical nucleus size and the intensity distribution of scattered radiation point to a new way of measuring the size of a critical nucleus.
