Supplemental feeding regimes for Egyptian vultures in the Negev Desert, Israel
Article Abstract:
The effects of variation in supplemental feeding regimes on the behavior of Egyptian vultures in the Negev Desert, Israel were examined. The vultures were provided food under two regimes, a regular feeding station (RFS) which was stocked daily with five to 10 kg of chicken carcasses and an irregular feeding station (IFS) stocked about twice a month with 20-350 kg of livestock carcasses. Results showed that adults apparently fed preferentially at the RFS since they dominated younger ones in encounters concerning food, while at the IFS, single birds could not defend food and adults did not feed preferentially.

Forage site selection by lesser snow geese during autumn staging on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the availability, distribution and use by snow geese of tall and russett cotton grass feeding habitats on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, AK, as well as selection of feeding habitats at spatial scales, feeding patches and feeding areas during 1990-1993. Feeding likelihood increased with greater soil moisture and decreased where nonforage species were present. Geese preferred feeding sites of predicted high quality feeding habitat such as water tracks, troughs and thermokarst pits and avoided basins and uplands.
