Due to mounting evidence of its toxicity, the US government is to ban the popular dietary supplement ephedra. Public health advocates are in favor to ban it, but some critics have branded it an overreaction to adverse publicity about the drug.

The United States Anti-Doping (USADA) received an anonymous tip-off that athletes were taking an undetectable steroid. The effectiveness of tests for banned sports drugs is discussed.
