Synergy between visual and olfactory cues in nectar feeding by wild hawkmoths, Manduca sexta
Article Abstract:
Field experiments were conducted to measure the relative importance of olfactory and visual cues in nectar foraging by wild tobacco hornworm moths, Manduca sexta in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, U.S.A. The results did not show any generalized feeding responses to natural or artificial flowers with single sensory stimuli, which reflected a learned preference for the full complement of floral cues, rather than the persistence of innate sensory constraints.

Ultraviolet cues affect the foraging behaviour of jumping spiders
Article Abstract:
Jumping spiders were tested using ultraviolet (UV) cues for locating and discriminating prey. The observations suggest that between jumping spiders and orb-web-building spiders, the jumping spiders detected the difference between UV-reflecting and non UV-reflecting and preferred the UV-reflecting ones.
