TLC for pelicans in Louisiana
Article Abstract:
The brown pelican is the state bird of Louisiana but by the end of the 1960s the population had been destroyed by DDT and other pesticides. 1,300 hundred fledgling brown pelicans were relocated from Florida to Louisiana in 1971 and after some rough starts, the population is now estimated at 50,000.
