Teenager waits 40 years for recognition

Tadashi Suzuki, a paleontologist who in 1968 discovered some ancient bones in a riverbank with his team made research on the found bones and revealed to be a species called an elasmosaur, the main type of plesiosaur. Elasmosaurs lived all over the world, but few specimens from Asia are well preserved.

Warning system makes the grade during quake
Article Abstract:
The earthquake, which had hit northeast Japan in August 2005, gave scientists an opportunity to test their early warning system. The system manufactured by Japan Meteorological Agency, takes advantage of a difference in speed between two kinds of seismic waves that make up a tremor.

Biobank provides leads for selecting guide dogs
Article Abstract:
A biobank for dogs will open in Japan in April 2007 where genetic tests will be conducted to select puppies that have good guide-dog ability for training and dogs having good guide-dog ability for breeding.
