Thar she blows: humpback whales surface off the coast of Africa
Article Abstract:
Humpback whales were not observed off the coast of Gabon until Sep, 1997, but are now regularly seen there, especially in the months of July, August and September. Groups of whales have been killed by offshore pollution linked to extensive petroleum exploitation in West Africa. The humpback whale is known for its eerie songs, and 27-ton whales have been observed jumping completely out of the water.
