The Wild Bird Conservation Act
Article Abstract:
The Wild Bird Conservation Act has achieved its goal of decreasing the importation of the exotic birds listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The law, which was passed in 1992, called for the conservation of birds that were subject to trade. Under the Wild Bird Conservation Act, all birds listed in the CITES Appendices cannot be imported into the US unless accompanied by permitted exemptions. Since its implementation, bird importation has declined by over 90%.

Species protection and the free market: mutually compatible
Article Abstract:
The success of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) for the longterm protection of wildlife depends on true free market alternatives where individuals can freely enter into contractual agreements and reform of the ESA itself. The failure of The Fish and Wildlife Service to abide by the Fifth Amendment regarding proper compensation causes landowners to engage minimally in land use practices beneficial to endangered and threatened species due to concerns about their own economic survival.
