The attraction of sand dunes
Article Abstract:
Geomorphologist B.T. Werner demonstrates a numerical model that explains the dynamics of dune formation without the use of the equation F = ma for every sand particle. The system becomes independent of the microphysics at the level of the dunes. When a slab of sand is picked up at random and transported in the direction of the wind, its motion continues over a stony bed. However, it deposits over a sand bed. R.A. Bagnold is of the same view that saltating sand bounces more off the stony surface than off sand.

Bedrock incision, rock uplift and threshold hillslopes in the northwestern Himalayas
Article Abstract:
The middle gorges of Indus river near Nanga Parbat in the northwestern Himalayas exhibit homogeneous topographic properties, independent of denudation alterations. Exposure-age dating with cosmogenic 10Be and 26Al reveals an incision rate of 2-12 mm per year for Indus river. Indus exhibits the maximum gradient around the Nanga Parbat/Haramosh axis (NPHA), indicating that the longitudinal profile of Indus is in equilibrium with the bedrock uplift pattern. Analysis of the digital elevation model is discussed.

The sedimentary structure of linear sand dunes
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the internal structure and development of linear sand dunes in the Namib Desert. The use of ground penetrating radar to provide evidence of lateral migration of linear dunes is discussed.
