The case for the Higgs boson
Article Abstract:
William Waldegrave presided over scientific issues as the UK's cabinet minister for science. With a British scientist heading the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Waldegrave must also decide on the installation of the Large Hadron Collider in the Large Electron-Positron Machine. Scientists hope that the addition of the Large Hadron Collider would help in the quest for the Higgs boson. The discovery of the Higgs boson is a primary goal of particle physics since it is the least understood of non-nuclear particles.

Promise of Higgs fails to save CERN collider
Article Abstract:
Luciano Maiani, the director-general of the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, announced in November 2000 that its Large Electron-Positron collider (LEP) in Geneva would be closed down. The failure of the LEP's detectors to find the subatomic particle called the Higgs Boson, meant that the continued running of the collider could not be justified.Luciano

Physicists haunted by hints of Higgs boson
Article Abstract:
Scientists in Geneva are pursuing evidence that the Large Electron-Positron collider, which was due to be shut down, has found signs of the existence of the Higgs boson. The search for the Higgs boson is discussed.
