The contemporary paradigm in ecology and its implications for endangered species conservation
Article Abstract:
The current paradigm in ecology focuses on the role of disturbances in bringing about changes in the form and makeup of ecosystems. This paradigm's recognition of open ecological systems and the part played by events in changing ecosystems makes it a more effective framework for endangered species conservation than the classical paradigm on ecology. The contemporary ecological paradigm's advocacy of extensive projects, rather than piece-meal ones, are needed in effectively saving endangered species.

The ecosystem survival plan: zoo visitors save wild places
Article Abstract:
The Ecosystems Survival Plan founded in 1988 allows zoos, aquarias and other scientific insitutions to take an active part in efforts to protect endangered ecosystems. Under the plan, the public can directly help in ecosystem management by contributing to the Conservation Parking Meter and the Adopt-An-Acre Program. Proceeds from these programs are used in purchasing land in selected threatened ecosystems. The plan is proving to be popular among the public.

Practical ecosystem management for plants and animals
Article Abstract:
The ecosystem approach to endangered species conservation is not an altogether new resource management tool. Plants and animals are studied in much the same way under the system, although the system recognizes that there are characteristics that distinguishes plants and animals from each other. However, the use of the approach does not mean that specie conservation would become easier. Efforts to protect the Kirtland's warber from extinction are discussed.
