The forgotten ecosystem
Article Abstract:
The vast inland region of savannah and dry woodland, known as the Cerrado in central Brazil is undergoing a dramatic change in land use as more than half of the Cerrado's original expanse is taken under agriculture production and only 2.2% is protected under the Cerrado. Hence in the mid-1980s United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization set up a project to look over the ecosystem and document the workings of the world's tropical savannahs.
