The ghost of magnetism
Article Abstract:
Mathur and colleagues infer that a magnetic pairing mechanism operates in two materials. The two heavy-fermion superconductors have acquire large effective masses, arising from the interaction of conduction electrons with localized magnetic moments. A magnetically ordered state of cerium 4f-local moments was found to compete with a heavy-fermion state, where all moments are compensated by conduction electrons.
