The influence of nutritional state on shoal choice in zebrafish, Danio rerio
Article Abstract:
Zebrafish, Danio rerio, are clearly able to assess differences in nutritional state in conspecifics. Food-deprived fish are strongly attracted to well-fed conspecifics, while well-fed fish test fish do not show any marked preferences. This finding does not rule out the possibility that shoals of food-deprived fish are more likely to find food than well-fed ones. The proportion of food ingested by the test fish was considerably greater when in a shoal of well-fed conspecifics, supporting the theory that competition with shoalmates can play a significant role.

Male territoriality mediates density and sex ratio effects on oviposition in the zebrafish, Danio rerio
Article Abstract:
The effects of density and operational sex ratio on male territoriality and female oviposition in the zebrafish are investigated. The results indicate that the mean per capita egg production is lower at high densities due to increased aggression at high densities by territorial males towards rivals, which interrupted female spawning attempts.
