The stress response and autumn dispersal behavior in willow tits
Article Abstract:
The hypotheses that an increase in circulating levels of corticosterone during flock establishment redirects the behavior of juvenile willow tits was studied. Results showed that increasing the hormone level in free-living willow tits (Parus montanus) affected dispersal behaviour differently in juveniles and adults. Adults did not leave their territories, while the majority of corticosterone treated juveniles disappeared from the forest. Corticosterone was found to be a factor involved in the dispersal behavior of juvenile willow tits in autumn.

Testosterone implants increase song but not aggression in male Lapland longspurs
Article Abstract:
Increasing levels of plasma testosterone in free-living male Lapland longspurs leads to a rise in song but not in territorial aggression. It appears that the high, short testosterone peak in these birds may be more connected with song than with territorial aggression. It is also possible that testosterone influences both aggression and song, but that aggression is generally suppressed during incubation. It seems that high testosterone alone is not sufficient to maintain high aggression in this species.

Glucocorticoid hormone levels increase with group size and parasite load in cliff swallows
Article Abstract:
Research on Petrochelidon pyrrhonota populations in southwestern Nebraska shows that corticosterone concentrations are linked to nesting stage and food scarcity after bad-weather events, in addition to the presence of ectoparasites. Concentrations were not related to body weight, sex, testosterone levels, or age.
