The timing of song and distance call learning in zebra finches
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether zebra finches learn distance calls earlier than songs by analyzing pre-recorded songs and distance calls of reared young zebra finches. Sonograms were used to determine whether the songs were learned from the father or the tutor by analyzing their tonal and noise elements. The results showed that young finches showed a preference for learning songs taught by a single tutor, but mixed song elements when several elements were presented. The finches learned more songs before the 35-day period from their father and only learned songs after this period in the presence of tutors.

Does leg-ring colour affect song tutor choice in zebra finches?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to find out if young male zebra finches which were raised by their mothers have leg-ring color preferences when it comes to choosing their song tutor. Results of the study suggest that zebra finches do not favor a song tutor based on its color rings. Tutors with light-green or light-blue color rings are both acceptable to them. However, zebra finches tend to be more attracted to song tutors that share the color-rings of their parents.

Song tutor choice by zebra finches in aviaries
Article Abstract:
A study of two aviaries of four breeding pairs and many other adult male zebra finches provided insight on their social interactions and revealed that the young males preferred to learn song types from their fathers. However, the nature of song learning had no significant effects on their social behavior traits such as allopreening and aggression.
