The unusual afterglow of the gamma-ray burst of 26 March 1998 as evidence for a supernova connection
Article Abstract:
It has been established that, some three weeks after the gamma-ray burst of Mar 26, 1998, the transient optical source connected with the burst brightened to around 60 times the anticipated flux. The spectrum changed significantly, with the colour becoming very red. It is suggested that the new source can be attributed to an underlying supernova shown only after the afterglow emission has disappeared. For the underlying supernova to be seen, the gamma-ray burst afterglow should decline rapidly.

An unusually brilliant transient in the galaxy M85
Article Abstract:
An optical transient is discovered in the outskirts of the lenticular galaxy Messier 85 in the Virgo cluster. The analysis has concluded that the M85 OT2006-1 has originated from a population of stars with masses of a few times the mass of the Sun or less.
