Article Abstract:
Experiments involving the muscles used by scallops to swim have enabled researchers to gauge the natural movements of muscles in living animals for the first time. Although much has been learned about the ability of isolated muscles to contract, this is the first significant progress toward understanding how muscular contraction functions when integrated with an animal's physiological structure. R.L. Marsh and colleagues found that the scallop muscle produced work equal to about 20 J kg-1 in each contraction.

Article Abstract:
Knut Schmidt-Nielsen was a great animal physiologist and had provided various studies to understand the lives of animals, especially in deserts. The physiologist provided several facts about animals like, camels, kangaroo rats and flying birds and also received lots of awards and honors for his achievements that also include the International Prize for Biology.
