Tighter watch urged on adenoviral vectors...
Article Abstract:
Many researchers who have used the adenoviral vector in clinical trials have given evidence to the Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee of the US National Institutes of Health. This committee has now stated that there is only a small gap between the potential efficacy of adenoviral vectors and their toxicity. For this reason, gene-therapy researchers using adenoviral vectors must exercise great care. The committee highlighted the need for more careful measurement at all stages of gene-therapy trials.

U.S. structural genomics effort needs physicists for success
Article Abstract:
In the US, the field of structural genomics, or the analysis of protein structures, has been boosted by additional funding, which means an increase in demand for radiation-producing synchrotrons. This will, in turn, require more facilities and more beamlines, and it will mean a demand for physicists who are willing to work closely with biologists to facilitate and automate the process of protein analysis.
